Ranchmen's-Terrell diversion Improvements
AWP is working near Aztec New Mexico to remove an aging diversion structure, construct a new rock weir in the Animas River, construct a new diversion structure and associated piping of the R-T ditch to improve water delivery, protect native fish populations, and improve river channel stability. In conjunction with the USFWS, AWP will assist in the installation of radio monitoring equipment at the project location to track endangered fish populations in the Animas River at Aztec, NM.
Prior to the construction of the channel features and diversion infrastruction, AWP worked to remove russian olive stands in the riparian area below the diversion structure. This work will allow for native willow and cottonwood to continue to thrive in the floodplain areas adjacent to the animas providint habitat and structure to the river corridor.
